The new Federal Government’s 2020 Summit held recently in Canberra came up with a number of recommendations that relate to education.

Some of the issues discussed at Summit on education included:

• The rising cost of tertiary education in particular and the increasing level of debt being incurred by students. Currently 1.1 million Australians have a total HECS debt of around $14 billion (Age 21/4/08:pg4)
• The need for access to education across the community – both financially and physically
